This is Kaikala but you can call her Kai for short. She is from the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef which is the second largest barrier reef in the world and runs along many of the Caribbean Islands. She loves to travel and explore the many diverse cultures of the islands from Cozumel, Mexico down to Roatan, Honduras. When swimming in the warm waters she loves to play with her Grouper friends who are as friendly, curious, and love to be hugged just as much as she does. Although the Groupers accept hugs by their mermaid friends, Kai reminds the humans that the fish and coral in the sea do not like to be touched. You can hurt them, and they can hurt you. So when you put on your fins and come swim in the sea, be aware and don’t kick the coral.
Reminder: For this mermaid, Fish are friends, not food! But if you do decide to eat a fish friend, make sure to check a sustainable seafood app on your phone device.
