Marilena is a fun-loving and creative mermaid from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. She loves to dance and sing, especially with her graceful ray friends. Mermaid Marilena also enjoys exploring the freshwater rivers that feed into the Gulf, from the clear spring-fed rivers of Florida to the mighty Mississippi. She’s found many human things that got washed into her home through these rivers, so she’d like to remind her human friends to properly dispose of their trash (or better yet, choose items that are reusable! ) and pick up litter so it doesn’t end up in our oceans.

Ocean Reminder: Our waterways are connected! A small piece of trash that gets washed into a river by your home will make its way to the ocean. One of the easiest ways to stop this is to make sure your trash and recyclables are properly disposed of, and to choose more reusable products so they don’t wind up in the trash in the first place!
