Nixie was born off the coast of Chile, and lives in the mystical waters of the Pacific Ocean around the island Chiloé. As a young guppy, she befriended a local fisherman’s son who taught her Spanish in exchange for treasures from the sea. Chiloé is known as the Island of Legends and Nixie spent many nights listening to the chilote people tell stories of magic and mystery around a fire. Her favorite was the story of her mother, La Pincoya, the daughter of the Sea King. La Pincoya is a mermaid who appears on the shores of Chiloé once a year and dances to tell the chilote where to fish. The Sea King- Millalobo- tasked his granddaughter Nixie with caring for all marine life around Chiloé. This means that Nixie must keep the oceans clean so that the creatures stay safe and happy.
Nixie loves to show others how to help save the ocean’s creatures and to teach new guppies Spanish words about the sea. If you ask her nicely, she might just share the mystical legends of her island and the marine life she cares for under the water. ¡Nixie te verá en el agua! She’ll see you in the water!
